Edit or remove PDF metadata

Every PDF carries hidden properties: title, author, subject, keywords, the application that created it and the software that wrote the file. They often reveal a name or a program you did not mean to share.

Open a PDF to see these properties, change any of them, or clear them all with one click, and save a copy. The title is what browsers and PDF viewers show in the tab or title bar.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF; its current properties are shown.
  2. Edit the fields, or click "Clear all fields".
  3. Click "Save metadata" and download the file.

Questions

Why remove metadata?

The author and creator fields can reveal your name, your company or the software you use. Clearing them before you share a document keeps that private.

Does it change what is on the pages?

No. Only the document properties change; the pages stay the same.

Why does the title matter?

Browsers and PDF readers show it instead of the file name, and search engines may use it for PDFs published online.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Edit PDF metadata runs in your browser on your own device, so your files never leave it. It is free, with no account, no limits and no watermark, and the code is open source (AGPL-3.0).
