Remove the background from an image

Get a transparent PNG of a product, a person or a logo. For photos, an AI model (U²-Net) finds the main subject and runs entirely on your device; the first run loads the model, about 5 MB, from this site. It works best with one clear subject.

For logos, scans and studio shots, the plain-colour method removes the colour around the edges (white paper, a backdrop) with an adjustable tolerance. Keep the background transparent or fill it with a colour of your choice.

How to use it

  1. Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC).
  2. Choose "AI: photos" or "Plain colour: logos, scans", and a transparent or coloured background.
  3. Click "Remove background" and download the PNG files.

Questions

Are my photos sent to an AI service?

No. The model runs in your browser on your own device; the images never leave it.

Which method should I use?

AI for photos of people, products and animals. Plain colour for logos, signatures and scans on white or a single-colour backdrop.

Why is the result a PNG?

PNG keeps transparency, so the cut-out can be placed on any background.
